How to Compare Windows and Linux

2 January, 2012 (22:20) | Uncategorized | By: admin

Depending upon the crowd you are in, or who you consult with, you will get wide variations to the answer of this question – Is Windows or Linux better? Usually it comes down to personal choice above everything else. Windows is obviously the more popular choice, but if you’re willing to dig a little deeper, there’s plenty of information about Linux out there as well. In the following paragraphs, you will read about Linux and Windows operating systems – hopefully this will help you make a choice.

Depending upon which operating system you get (Windows or Linux), your web host may vary. There is a lot of confusion about this topic, and it doesn’t even have to do with the operating system that you use. Both Windows and Macintosh will operate on a Linux web host so there is actually no problem there.

Most people won’t even notice the difference between the two which is true for the average user. Many servers use Linux as their platform. Although this is much more secure on a PC, in regard to servers, cyber attacks are very common and sometimes successful. When choosing a web host, it usually amounts to choosing the one that has the features that you need. Although Linux does have a lot to offer, the majority of people do not know about it and therefore ignore it altogether. Even though this OS is not well known, many people use it and a variety of applications that work with this program. You are not limited simply because the Microsoft operating system is not available. Playing games is very easy on the Linux OS. It also has graphics programs and an e-mail program that you can use with the system. Although these are not Windows applications, they are comparable in many ways. Linux is not really compatible with Windows, so if you are doing some type of company transaction between computers, you may not want to use this OS.

Many people do not know that Linux has a variety of software programs focused on education. Students benefit greatly from all of the software applications that have been designed for the Linux system. What has happened is budget cuts at many schools have prompted the use of this free software to save money. Although Linux is the underdog in regard to popularity, because Microsoft Windows costs so much, the trend may move toward school-based Linux systems. The best way to find out if you really want to use Linux or not is to use Ubuntu, a software based upon the Linux operating system. There are many Windows-based computers so finding one to compare Ubuntu against will be easy. To solve the problem, simply get two computers – one with Linux and the other with Windows. This will make life much easier. It all comes down to why you need the operating system and what it can do for you. Make your choice today.
