Christian Surfers UK get behind the Tsunami surf relief UK day of action 9th April 2005

Christian Surfers UK are teaming up with Tsunami Relief UK and other surf industry organisations in a co-ordinated “Day Of Action” on 9 April 2005.

Whilst there will be a lot of focus on the events surrounding the Surf competition at Newquay on that day, there will also be lots of other fund raising projects taking place around the UK.

Christian Surfers UK are very keen to do as much as possible to raise funds on this day in other communities, and to involve as many people as possible, so have organised the following events :

1) Paddleathon (Long distance surfboard paddle) on the River Thames from Maidenhead to Windsor to provide surfers in the London area with an opportunity to get involved in this initiative.
Those wishing to take part should register on the Christian Surfers London website www.cslondon.com/id3.html - which will direct you to the surfboard affiliation web page so that they can register with the Environments Agency. There is no charge for entry – but each surfer will raise as much as they can through sponsorship.
Meet at the Riviera Café in Maidenhead at Midday

2) Dawn Till Dusk Fancy Dress Surf Relay - On the south coast of Devon at Bantham Beach ( Nr Plymouth ) on 9th April. Surfers will get into teams of four or more and enter the water for an hour at a time. There will be prizes on the day for the best-dressed team, the best wipe out etc and each team will raise as much money for the fundraising project as possible through sponsorship.

3) Interclub Event - In Wales Christian Surfers are also teaming up with the Welsh Coast Surf Club. Both Organisations will compete against each other and all entry fees will be donated to the Appeal. This should be a great day of fundraising.

4) Newquay - Under 18’s event – To supplement the party in Newquay for the 18’s and over, Christian Surfers Newquay are holding a party night for the under 18’s with live music at the ‘Source’ café on Marcus Hill, Newquay.

The effects of the Tsunami may have left the front pages – but it is hoped that these, along with many other initiatives, on the day will draw the focus back to the area. People will realise just how much there is still to do, but every one can play a part, and together we can make a difference to the Arugam Bay community on Sri Lanka’s East Coast.
